2011

There was another slow start to the year due to prolonged bad weather.

In February there was a singout at Blackpool Hilton Hotel.

In March the Chorus sang at The Retirement Show at G-Mex - to show what new retirees can do. There was a fundraiser, organised by the British Legion, for Manchester Children’s Hospital.

There seem to have been a lot of visitors at rehearsals this year, from various parts of the world. Some of them were ex-Chorus members. Rob Barber visited a few times, sometimes to listen and sometimes to coach.

The Chorus came 29th out of 33 at Convention, in Llandudno. Four to the Bar came 16th in the quartets.

In June, Emma became MD. A presentation was made to Paul Walters as thanks for his leadership for the past few years. Paul also left Four to the Bar and was replaced by Norman Ambrose.

There were several singouts in June and July. including Sing the Docks.

At the AGM, Paul Walters was voted Barbershopper of the Year and Frank Lawrenson won the Bill Thomas trophy ‘for his dedication of learning the bass part instead of lead for al of our repertoire’. Bret Roberts became chairman and David Reeves took over as secretary.

There were visits from Rosettes’ quartets Technique and Northern Vibe, to practise their convention packages. (Northern Vibe took the Bronze Medal at their convention; Technique came 10th.; The Red Rosettes came 12th.)  Later in the year there were some joint concerts with the Rosettes.

There was a BABS National Learn to Sing Day in October and several more singouts.
