2001

In January the Chorus had an unusual wedding booking. The bride’s daughter, who had gone out to buy shoes, heard the Chorus singing in Burnley and thought it would be a good idea to ask them to sing at the wedding. She joined together with the rest of her family to book the Chorus instead of buying presents and the event was arranged in secret.  She said, ‘I went out to buy shoes and bought a choir instead’.

In March there was a two-day visit from Nick Frampton (Guild of Judges Vice-chairman).

In April Northern Heritage had a hectic weekend in Glasgow and Edinburgh, at the request of BABS, as part of the publicity for the first Scottish Convention. At the Convention, in May, the Chorus came 5th and were mistakenly awarded the Small Chorus Award.

Northern Heritage, who were the reigning Senior Quartet Champions had a busy year which included producing a promotional CD.

A new quartet was created. Sounds Fun consisted of Syd Kay (Lead), Peter Porter (Bari), John Humphries (Tenor) and Mike Ingham (Bass).

In June the Chorus sang at the Preston Marriott Hotel for Derek Poulton’s daughter’s wedding.

In July Eamon and Teresa Phillips celebrated their Silver Wedding with a party at Wellington Park, where they were joined by the Chorus.

The Red Rose Rag took on a new look. Bernard Davis gave up the editorship after 50 issues and was presented with a rose bowl n recognition of his ‘enthusiastic authorship’.

The problem of transporting the risers was much discussed during the year and was eventually left with pleas to members to volunteer to tow the trailer to singouts.

The year ended with a  concert at the Opera House, Blackpool where the Red Rose Chorus were special guests at Wurlitzer Wonderland.
